Identify 2 world events that impacted on your life…

Before I was born

World War 2 1939–1945

For me, world war 2 made an impact not only on my life but on everyone. It started when Adolf Hitler decided to invade Poland. Since Japan was part of this event, it led to the Philippines ' colonization. This led to the dozen accounts of abusing women. The Japanese have also abused many Filipinos especially the ones who do not follow them.

Mt Pinatubo Eruption 1991

Secondly is Probably the eruption of Mount Pinatubo. It has affected many Filipinos during that time by generating a whopping 7.8 magnitude earthquake affecting. Spuing toxic fumes from a hundred miles away and also creating small local earthquakes in the nearby cities, this has traumatized millions of Filipinos. I even remember my mom saying that even here in Metro Manila the ashes found its way inside our homes.

The year I was born (2001)

9/11

Although I was still a Child, I kinda still have a memory of us watching it on the news. It absolutely shocked the whole world. This event had caused panic from different countries since they do not know when and if a terrorist attack will happen in their country, thus enhancing their securities in airports, embassies, and such. I also have recently visited New York and my mom and I went to the world trade center. It's very chilling to know that something tragic happened here but at the same time, I felt that the people who suffered are now living in peace.

Creation of Mobile Phones

On the brighter side, Mobile phones like the Motorolla Razr or the very Iconic Nokia 3310 was available to the consumers. This technology has enabled people to connect with each other with ease. Going past the “mail” stage, people could simply pay for them to send SMS to a specific person. I remembered my Mom had the Nokia phones (I don't remember the model) and my Tita had the Razr. It was really amazing how technology is evolving.

The Future

Corona Virus (COVID -19) 2019

The pandemic has caused a huge fall in our economy. Causing Businesses to shutdown, the countries economy was on the verge of falling rock bottom. Lifestyles of everyone has changed drastically, making us follow the “New Normal”: Wearing of Facemasks, Faceshields, and Social distancing. Everyone being paranoid they might get infected as well. This event has traumatized everyone. During the first few months of the community quarantine, it was like the whole world has stopped. With empty streets and empty buildings it kind of looks like a ghost town. This virus has created a huge change for everyone, for me the most affected ones are the financially troubled ones and our front liners. It will take time for us to adjust and it will definitely take time for us to recover physically and psychologically.

The Big One

This disaster has not happened yet and hopefully, it will not. The big one is when the West Vally Fault moves. An estimated 7.2 magnitude earthquake may happen and it will affect many especially the ones living near the fault: Taguig, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Quezon City, Pasig, Makati, and Marikina. The loss of property and worse, life will occur once the fault moves. According to Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr, DOST Undersecretary for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation said “34,000 people may die” and will damage lifelines such as water, telecommunications, roads, and such. There isn't really a way to prevent or stop this disaster, we could simply prepare ourselves. If this will happen, it will not only affect people physically but the psychological recovery of those who are affected and even not will be more than a year for them to fully recover.
